Comic Book Pitt #27 - Reviews and Requiems
It’s a bittersweet episode of CBP as we talk about the last issue of Ultimate Spider-Man. Other titles we talk about this week are:
The Hood: Blood From Stones HC
The Last Days of Animal Man #1
Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers #1

The Hood is such an amazing character. I have a feeling I’ll have to read the origin story for sure. We recently had our own little throw down about The Hood & The Punisher on YIBR, and I think we had a lot of the same points. Glad we’re not the only one who thinks he’s a badass. I also agree with the “new archtype” sort of deal.
Lots of comics in this podcast, but the one that stands out in my mind is Irredeemable. Sounds all sorts of messed up and awesome at the same time.
On a final note: Way to make Mighty Avengers sound AWESOME. I’m half tempted to follow the Dark Reign versions of that now. Just MAYBE. Chances are I’ll wait for a TPB or something if I have to. Back Issues are always a headache when they’re not too old.

Animal Man – Love the Bolland covers, I’ve read the Morrison books (first 20 or so) a few moons ago and enjoyed them. I did pick this up, but it’s in my “to be read” pile.
Dark Reign – I can’t keep up with all of the limited series and I dropped the $3.99 Avengers books, I will get these from the library when they are collected. The folks at the Carnegie Library know me by my name, I’m the guy who reads all of their comic books! The CLPGH does have a great collection and it’s easy to request books online (even inter-library loans). That’s my shameless plug for the public library. I did pick up the last few Might Avengers (still $2.99) and I love how Lady Loki was used to bring the team together. Lady Loki is just creepy.
On that note, I just requested “The Hood: Blood from Stones” from the library. To be honest my first impression of the Hood character was from his appearance in the New Avengers. He seemed insignificant and I couldn’t understand why so much emphasis was placed on him. I don’t like the character. Brian K. Vaughan is a great writer, not a big fan of Holtz so that may explain why I never picked up the original story. However, upon your recommendation I will read the original story and I hope to have my mind changed. Thanks for that…
Man, Ultimate Spider-man 133 was really bashed on a few other pod casts. You are very generous compared to your peers. I’ve ordered this book online and I won’t have it until the end of the month, so I can’t state my opinion. I am however disappointed how they ended this line, I really try to avoid anything written by Loeb (unless it’s a team up with Tim Sale) and my understanding is that Ultimatum is really quite silly. “Death throes” is a great way to describe the Ultimate Universe. It’s a shame. Oh well, money saved!
I did get a ticket to meet Stan Lee! My mom bought the ticket as a fathers’ day gift. My wife never rolled her eyes more, I was sure her eyes were going to fall out of her head. My mom is 82 and a widow, I’m hoping to hook her up with Stan ‘the man’ Lee. I know, that’s a little bit creepy, I’m really kidding…sort of.
